Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme Update
As of April 1st 2022, the Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme will no longer be open to homeowners of single-unit properties, including terraced, semi-detached, detached housing and bungalows.
The EVHS scheme will remain open to:
- Homeowners of flats
- Residents in rented accommodation (both flats and single-unit properties).
What is the Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme?
The Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS), is a government grant scheme that offers up to £350 towards your EV home charger purchase and installation. The grant is also commonly known as the OZEV grant as it is issued by the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles.
The government has recognised that electric vehicles are vital to decarbonising the transport systems in the UK and reducing air pollution. To support the ownership of electric vehicles, the government designed the OZEV scheme so that car owners are facilitated to buy and install EV chargers, with the support of the grant and can therefore charge their vehicles at home.
The grant is available for most electric and plug-in hybrid cars, both old and new and provides a 75% contribution towards the cost of a single charge point and installation cost.
The grant is now only available to homeowners of flat properties, and does not apply to homeowners of single-unit properties. The EVHS grant is also available to those who live in rented accommodation. The total grant is capped at £350.
How do you claim your OZEV grant with Joltify?
To claim your OZEV grant, an approved EV home charger installer, like Joltify, will apply for the grant for you. You cannot apply for the grant yourself but it is a pretty straightforward process through our online submission form where you can request an OZEV grant quote. We will then ask a few more details to make sure your application is accurate and correct. Once completed and eligible, we will then apply for your grant on your behalf!
Applying through Joltify is easy, we simply take a few details before your installation, with no payment taken until your application is ready to go. Once ready, we apply on your behalf and update you every step of the way.
It is not possible for Joltify or any other approved EV home charger installers to approve your grant application, only the government has the ability to do so. Joltify assists all customers who are eligible and are interested in the grant with their application process – and are experienced in doing so.

How do you qualify for the Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme?
There are a number of requirements to qualify for the Electric Vehicle Homecharge scheme, but the main points are:
- You must have purchased or ordered an eligible electric or plug-in hybrid car. Or have leased one for at least six months.
- You must have designated, off-street parking at your property.
- You must meet the vehicle ownership requirements.
- You must install an OZEV approved chargepoint. All of the EV chargers we install are OZEV approved but if you are unsure if your charger is approved or not, get in touch.
- You must use an OZEV approved installer, like Joltify.
- You must not have previously applied for the grant for the same vehicle. You may apply for the grant again if you have 2 qualifying vehicles and you require 2 charge points at the same property.
- You cannot be a homeowner of a single-unit property. The EVHS grant is now only available to those who rent property, or homeowners of flats.

How will I receive the Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme money? After conducting our checks, based on our knowledge and experience, we will have a pretty good idea if you will be eligible for the grant. However, this does not guarantee that your application will be accepted. The OZEV application process can take up to 3 months to reach a decision by the government, but is usually much sooner. If we are confident in your application being approved, we will deduct the £350 off your quote to begin with. However if your application is later rejected, a payment of £350 will be required at a later date, up to 3 months after the initial payment. It is important to be honest and transparent about your situation when going through the application checks and questions so that we can best advise you.
